I am Maricela Alvarez, a postpartum doula, I also hold a Bachelor’s degree in Chicano Studies with a minor in Psychology. Most of my professional life I have taught persons of all ages who have developmental disabilities. I have also spent many years as a dance instructor. I speak Spanish and spent part of my teen years and early twenties living in the Dominican Republic and Argentina. Some time ago I felt the need that my life needed a change. With much soul searching I decided to become a doula.
Of all the accomplishments I have had in my life. Of all the adventures I have lived, my most precious and priceless one is marrying my husband and having our four sons. My secret childhood dream was always to become a mother. I am living that dream day after day. It’s not always easy being a mother to four little boys as it comes with its fair amount of challenges but; I would not want to live life any other way!
My passion for motherhood is what inspired me to become a doula. A doula in ancient Greek means "a woman who serves." This is who I am and who I want to be, a woman who serves.
I am honored and humbled to be allowed and chosen to serve women who are in their postpartum period. I will serve my clients and treat them with dignity and love as my clients embark on their own journeys through motherhood.
